Baldwin's marriage to Basinger ended badly and there have been heated custody battles over their daughter, Ireland. In the long-running war, Baldwin was ordered to undertake anger management classes. Basinger ended up as the primary care-giver and she and Ireland share their L.A. home with 21 animals.

Alec Baldwin played the lead role in "The Hunt for Red October" in 1990. In 2002 Baldwin acted in and directed a version of The Devil and Daniel Webster. In 2003 he appeared in the excellent The Cooler, which featured a wonderful performance by William H Macy and The Cat in the Hat.
